This photo was commissioned for a friend of mine who is an Oula dance instructor and needed some photo of herself to promote her classes. Acccording to the official Oula website, Oula is "OULA® is a high-energy, easy to learn, calorie burning, crazy-fun dance workout to Top 40 hits. Classes are one epic hour of sweat, joy, and total inspiration! OULA® is Dancemania for the Soul."" Delaney is certified to teach Oula, Oula One (Oula + yoga), and Oula Junior (Oula for kids).

This photo was taken after I insisted that our group stop the car so I could capture this gorgous sunset. As I was looking for a good vantage point, a few bicyclists stopped to enjoy it too. In that moment I realized I had found an intersting angle on a relatively common subject.

In November of 2016 I was fortunate enough to travel to Japan as part of the Kakehashi Project. This is a program sponsored each year by the Japanese government to enourage friendship between Japan and various countries, including the United States. Though the trip focused on business and economic partnership, our facilitators made sure that we saw important historical and cultural locations in Japan. One of these was Mount Aso, located in Kumamoto prefecture.

Kumamoto Castle

In November of 2016 I was fortunate enough to travel to Japan as part of the Kakehashi Project. This is a program sponsored each year by the Japanese government to enourage friendship between Japan and various countries, including the United States. Though the trip focused on business and economic partnership, our facilitators made sure that we saw important historical and cultural locations in Japan. One of these was Kumamoto Castle, located in Kumamoto prefecture. This was significant because the entire region sustained severe damage from a large earthquake in April of 2016. We were visiting many months later and much of the city still hadn't been repaired, partly due to the many aftershoks that the region experienced. In particular, many of the stone walls in 550+ year old Kumamoto castle complex collapsed. We were not allowed to go inside or even close to the castles for this reason. It is estimated to take 20 years to restore the castle complex. While we were visiting a local film crew had taken over the area around one of the collapsed walls to film a production that reflected the physical and psychological damage that was caused by the earthquake. The woman in the photo was a dancer that appeared to be a central feature in this production.
